Justin Lovato at Art Whino, D.C. Dec 14
Friday, 14 December 2007
"Much can and has been said about Justin Lovato and the meanings underlying his artwork, from the style of narrative to the medley of subject matter. And, many fine words havebeen employed in the background story of Lovato's pop culture-soaked youth, lifelong interest in art, exploits in graffiti, and philosophy regarding "public space." Here's what we have to say: his art looks neat. The linework is nothing groundbreaking, reminiscent of a mix of Andrew Schoultz and Ferris Plock, but he has a distinctively rich, earthy palette and subtle use of stenciling incorporated with hand painting that makes us smile. Lovato has an eponymously titled solo show which opens tonight from 6 pm to midnight at Art Whino in Alexandria, Virginia - a skipping stone's stretch from D.C., just so you know.
